Everyman is a campaign run by The Institute of Cancer Research to raise awareness of and funding for male cancer.
The facts speak for themselves:
- Currently prostate cancer is killing one man every hour in the UK and has now become the most common cancer in men. More than 30,000 men are affected by prostate cancer each year
- Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men from 20-35 and the incidence rate has risen dramatically n the last 20 years. If caught early enough the disease can have a cure rate as high as 99%
- Despite increased awareness of male cancer, a recent survey showed that still only 19% of young men check themselves regularly
Despite the fact that scientists still know very little about the causes of these cancers, this area of research is severely underfunded which is why the work of the Everyman scientists is so vital.
Over £1.5 million is needed each year to fund the Everyman Centre, Europe's only research centre dedicated to male cancer. And as one of the most cost effective cancer research organisations in the world, Everyman pride's itself on the fact that over 90p in every pound £1 is spent directly on its vital research.
